Graduating with an art degree from San Jose State, I began my journey toward becoming a professional artist as a weaver. Though I continue to produce a limited number of both decorative and wearable items my focus transitioned from weaving to silk abstracts as I learned the fascinating process of hand dying.

In 1997, I was commissioned to weave a panel using hand dyed silk. This was the groundwork for the abstracts which I began showing in earnest in 2003. The introduction in 2005 of  works on canvas allows my use of a wider range of weights and textures as well the ability to present larger scale work. 2020 saw the introduction of panels designed to hang without the confines of a frame. Hand dying the materials, using individual pieces and layering those pieces plus floating the edges creates a sense of depth in all my work.

Color is what feeds my designs. Once I am pleased with the harmony of the silks I have chosen for a particular piece the layout evolves over a period of days, looking from different angles with different lighting. Working in 360 often enables me to design pieces which can be  hung both vertically or horizontally. .

I am captivated by fiber as my means of artistic expression, especially silk.  Being a tactile person is the driving force to my working in this medium.  I love playing with color and utilizing the wonderful palette available hand dying to create art.

I welcome visitors to my studio. Feel free to set up an appointment .
